Death Cathedral is a dark soulslike side-scroller. The game was developed by Melancholia Studio team and it was published by Thermite Games.

Plot

In Death Cathedral we go to the dark fantasy universe. Our task is to create an army of undead warriors, who will be able to face the evil lurking in the cathedral. Matters are complicated by the fact that we have only fifteen days to complete the mission.

Mechanics

In Death Cathedral authors give us over 40 characters varying in appearance, profession and fighting style. Among them we can find a plague doctor, a tomb raider, a sword-armed knight, an assassin or a bandit. As the heroes are only reanimated remains, held together by dark magic, each of them gradually deteriorates. The more time we spend in a body, the faster its degeneration progresses. What is more, the process cannot be stopped, but only slowed down with the help of special preservatives. Therefore, we must constantly look for body parts of defeated opponents, which will serve us to create new bodies waiting for revival.

There are six vast and gloomy locations to visit. Exploring them, we have to be on guard, because on our way there are often various opponents. Duels look like battles from fighting games and are ruled by the laws characteristic for the soulslike genre. The key to success, then, is careful observation of your opponents' movements in search of gaps in their defences, blocking attacks, dodging and launching lightning-fast counter-attacks.

During the exploration we gain not only limbs, but also better and better equipment, which provides our warriors with both various bonuses to the statistics and varied combat skills. From time to time on our way we also encounter friendly (or only seeming so) characters.

Technical aspects

The graphic design of Death Cathedral is kept in a gloomy style not too different from what we are used to from the best of the genre.
