Dredge

Dredge is an unusual fishing RPG with elements of Lovecraftian horror. It's the debut project of a New Zealandian studio Black Salt Games

Plot

The player controls a rookie fisherman trying to start a business on the Marrow archipelago. He quickly learns the waters hide many terrifying secrets and a mysterious occult organization is trying to use them for its own purposes.

Mechanics

Dredge is an RPG revolving mostly around fishing. We start the game with only a small fishing boat. Fishing provides us with income used to upgrade the ship with a more powerful engine or a larger cargo hold, as well as to purchase better rods, nets and crab pots. As time passes, we can purchase better ships and unlock more lucrative regions.

Fishing, however, is not our only source of income. Soon we start receiving offers to fish out artifacts from the ocean floor. These tasks are lucrative, but risky, with our employer gradually becoming less trustworthy.

The ocean in Dredge is dangerous. Other than storms and shallows, we'll also face mysterious beasts from the water depths and the sky heights. To survive and profit we can use supernatural powers gained by extracting artifacts.

Game modes

The game is only playable in singleplayer.

Technical aspects

The appealing 3D visuals of Dredge combine a cartoonish artstyle with a dark horror atmosphere.
