Songs of Conquest: How to leave the battle? Songs of Conquest guide, tips

Fleeing the battlefield is a wise move in SoC when encountering enemies that are too strong. Our guide explains when the game allows you to retreat from the battlefield and the latest time to cancel a battle.

Last update: 20 May 2024

Does Songs of Conquest always provide the option to withdraw from a battle? This page of the guide describes the topic of avoiding unwanted skirmishes - we explain whether you can flee the battle and when, at the latest, this move is available. You will also learn about the potential reasons for the battle cancellation function being blocked.

Withdrawal from battle

1 - Songs of Conquest: How to leave the battle? - FAQ - Songs of Conquest Guide
  1. The option to flee the battle can be very useful if you have encountered enemies that are too strong and do not want to risk losing a wielder or a large part of the army.
  2. Unfortunately, the game does not enable you to withdraw at any time. This feature can only be unlocked on the battle preparation screen, i.e. the one where you deploy your units on the tiles. The game may then (though not necessarily) make the Withdraw button available - we have highlighted it in the image.
2 - Songs of Conquest: How to leave the battle? - FAQ - Songs of Conquest Guide
  1. You can no longer withdraw after loading the battlefield, where units of both armies will appear, even if you were the attacking side and no moves have yet been made.
  2. The only solution is to call up the pause menu and load a saved game state from before the battle began, that is, before attacking a group of enemies or before an enemy Wielder approached.

Cases when withdrawal is impossible

3 - Songs of Conquest: How to leave the battle? - FAQ - Songs of Conquest Guide
  1. The Withdraw button is not always available. The main reason for the game to disable it is an attack by an enemy Wielder during their turn. Your hero cannot avoid a battle in such case. You must engage in combat, but you are still able to deploy your troops on the available hexes.

Determining the threat level before the battle begins

It is worth protecting against unwanted battles and the potential loss of the wielder or a large portion of troops - Songs of Conquest: How to leave the battle? - FAQ - Songs of Conquest Guide

It is worth protecting against unwanted battles and the potential loss of the wielder or a large portion of troops:

  1. Check the threat level for stationary opponents - it displays when you approach them. Orange or red means big trouble - these types of battles are best avoided completely until the hero levels up and their army is expanded.
  2. Save the game often and use different slots. In the opponent's turn, for example, there may be a sudden appearance of one of the heroes. They can attack your wielder or one of your cities and a battle is then mandatory. By having at your disposal numerous save files you can, for example, better prepare yourself (recruiting troops) or distance yourself from a traveling enemy wielder.

You can find more information about the level of the challenge and adjusting it to your preferences on a separate page dedicated to Difficulty Levels from the Basics chapter.
