Harvest Hunt is a survival horror game with roguelike elements. The game was developed by the independent team Villainous Games Studio from London.

Plot

Harvest Hunt takes us to a fantasy universe inspired by European folklore. The story is about a land to which a group of peasants fled from the Black Death and where they founded the village of Luna Nova, which was to be their home from then on.

Their idyllic life did not last long, as it quickly turned out that under the cover of darkness, a monstrous creature called the Devourer is roaming the local corn fields. During the gameplay, we play as the Wardens who must declare war on the Devourer and ensure the settlement's survival.

Mechanics

In Harvest Hunt we watch the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). The task of each Warden, over whom we take control, is to gather the appropriate amount of so-called Ambrosia and leave the location in one piece. The matter is complicated by the fact that the Devourer is constantly on our heels. The monster will stop at nothing to hunt us down and kill us.

We have melee weapons at our disposal, such as pitchforks and axes, but this does not mean that we have to attack the monster with a battle cry on our lips. A better idea might be to outsmart the opponent, show cunning, hide among crops, act quietly or create misleading tracks.

In addition to melee weapons we also get special cards. They are associated with various skills that provide us with an advantage over our adversary, as well as traps that we can set for the Devourer. This is important because, despite being powerful, the Devourer is not immortal. Every time we manage to hurt the monster, it discards pieces of its body, which we can use to perform a ritual that allows us to temporarily expel it.

We select the aforementioned cards from a larger pool. It is worth trying to compose such a deck, in which individual elements will not only address our biggest weaknesses (like speed of movement), but also complement each other.

Their opposite are the so-called Whispers, which are special cards drawn randomly. They can modify the course of the game in various ways. For example, they can make the Devourer stronger, poison water tanks, or even make the monster leave behind toxic traces that cause us damage.
