Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut

Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut is the director's cut version of the popular action sandbox Ghost of Tsushima. The game was once again developed by Sony and Sucker Punch, an American studio known for such series as Sly Cooper or inFamous. The new version of the game includes all previously released updates and the Legends expansion pack, as well as brand new content, among other things, graphical enhancements for PlayStation 5 and the Iki Island expansion, available for both PS5 and PS4.

Plot

The story takes us back to 1274 in feudal Japan, where we take on the role of a samurai named Jin Sakai. The main character has to stop Mongol invaders after they attacked the Tsushima Island, murdering most of his countrymen.

Mechanics

Like the 2020 original, Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut is an action adventure game played from a third-person perspective. The game offers us exploration of a vast open world, which we have the opportunity to traverse both on foot and on horseback.

Travelling through the picturesque lands of Japan, we often come across numerous opponents, with whom we can fight using a katana or a bow. The game offers us different fighting styles, each of which works best against a specific type of warrior.

As the enemy forces are overwhelming, it is more sensible to use the stealth option whenever possible. A good way to avoid confrontation is also to distract enemies with smoke bombs or firecrackers or to eliminate them from a distance, for example using throwing knives or flaming arrows.

The game also uses a provocation system, which allows you to start a fight by challenging and then eliminate opponents with single, effective blows. However, the condition is to execute the attacks at the right time, otherwise the protagonist will lose a significant amount of life.

Iki Island

The most important part of Director's Cut version is mini-campaign which allows us to explore the area of the Iki Island - a completely new area occupied by the enemies that don't appear in the main game. The protagonist goes to this place to check the rumors about the presence of Mongols. The expedition quickly becomes personal, and the protagonist is forced to confront his traumatic past once again.

Co-op

Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut offers single-player campaign gameplay, but owners of the base game also get a DLC introducing online co-op mode Ghost of Tsushima: Legends , which can be played with up to four players.

PS5 upgrade

Owners of the PS5 expansion can enjoy improved visuals, offering 4K resolution with 60 FPS. In addition, the game makes use of touch effects and adaptive triggers of the DualSense controller. Enthusiasts who want to play the game in the Japanese language can also count on the introduced lip-sync function (synchronization of characters' lip movements with the words they speak) for the Japanese dubbing. Another useful feature is the ability to transfer saved progress from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 for those who want to continue playing on the newer console without having to start all over again.
