Potential Fix for Crashing MultiVersus on Startup

Super Smash Bros is a series that is very popular in Nintendo’s portfolio. However, as it usually happens with that company, it is locked out to their own environment. Obviously, there have been many attempts to recreate this franchise’s success, yet probably no one get as close to SSB as MultiVersus due to roster of amazing, well known characters. The title has been through ups and downs, eventually shutting down online functionalities in the middle of 2023, only to come back with full version just recently. Unfortunately, as numerous people started gravitating towards this production, many have encountered problems with game crashes while opening it. Let’s see what it’s all about and if there is any remedy.

Multiversus launch crash potential fix

Many MultiVersus fans who wanted to get into the fray with their favourite Warner Bros characters were unpleasantly surprised by crashes while trying to open the game. This is something that we would not expect from a title that was in beta for such a long time and then fully released, but well… here we are, so let’s check what can be causing this.

There are several things suggested by disheartened players:

1. Since the game has come through major changes, uninstall all mods if you have had them previously installed. It is nothing uncommon that with the new version of an application, any plugins or modifications that were created for older compilation can pose problems.
2. If you have never installed any mods nor you have played the title before, yet it still crashes unexpectedly, try adding “-dx12” to Steam’s launch options. This will force the use of DirectX 12 API that has a chance of improving MultiVersus’ stability.
3. Another thing to try is a clean reinstall of the production. By default, the folder is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MultiVersus. Simply remove the MultiVersus directory and try installing it once more.
4. As a last resort you can always attempt updating your drivers. It doesn’t have a huge chance of succeeding, yet it also won’t hurt.
