Crown Wars: The Black Prince is a turn-based strategy game with RPG elements. It was developed by Artefacts Studio, also known for the warmly received The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet of Chaos. The game was published by Nacon.

Plot

Crown Wars: The Black Prince is set during the Hundred Years' War, fought between England and France in the 14th and 15th century. In 1356, after nearly twenty years of the conflict, Europe must face yet another calamity - a plague decimating entire cities. As if that wasn't enough, there's an evil cult lurking in the shadows, which has secretly seized power and is using the war for their own purposes. Our playable character is the head of a noble family, seeking glory on the battlefield. They do not yet know the extent of evil they're to face...

Mechanics

Crown Wars: The Black Prince makes use of the top-down perspective. The player's castle serves as their headquarters, which can be expanded as we progress through the game. Within, we must recruit soldiers, train and equip them.

Having a large, advanced army is important, not only to defend our domain. Our warriors will help us on our adventures, during which we'll try to reach the source of the evil ravaging Europe. Combat is turn-based, requiring proper positioning of our units and making good use of their strengths.

We must also handle diplomacy; forming alliances with other families can make our task easier.

Technical aspects

Crown Wars: The Black Prince features decent visuals, making use of a subdued, pastel color scheme.
