Grand Theft Auto V - the next installment of the classic series of crime action games by Rockstar North - takes place in a world based on California. In the universe of Grand Theft Auto the state is called San Andreas and part of it is the city of Los Santos, the main setting of the fifth game. Once again, the setting is a parody of our reality, ridiculing different ideologies, products, phenomena and human behavior. At the same time, the developers of GTA V have tried to expand their game since the previous installments.
It's worth mentioning that GTA 5 on the PC, as well as eighth and ninth generation consoles, is the complete, most extensive version of the game. This edition offers an FPP mode, as well as better graphics (though you need sufficiently powerful hardware in case of the PC version).
Plot
The story of GTA 5 takes place in the huge open city of Los Santos, where a trio of unusual protagonists lead dangerous lives. A former robber Michael, covered by the witness protection program, lives peacefully until one day he catches his wife cheating on him with her tennis instructor. In a fit of rage he destroys what he believes to be the man's mansion, which, as it turns out, is actually owned by a powerful drug lord. To pay for damages, Michael has no choice but to return to his old life and rob a jewelry store. The robbery draws the attention of his former partner, Trevor Philips, who finds him and convinces him to start working together once again. They are soon joined by Franklin, a young man from the ghetto wishing to get rich quickly.
Gameplay
All three protagonists of Grand Theft Auto V are playable and can be switched between at will (except during story missions, as then each character has a specific role), thus changing the player's location as well. The game revolves around completing quests, the most important of which are heists. Before each heist we must complete a few smaller preparatory tasks, such as securing equipment. Once that's done, we can hire other crew members, choose one of two available methods and begin the robbery. In addition to story quests, there are many smaller missions awaiting you as well. Completing them often lets you learn more about the game's protagonists.
All of this takes place in Los Santos, a huge city based on over 250,000 photos of Los Angeles and its surrounding areas. Still, this urban setting filled with skyscrapers and modern estates isn't the only one the game has to offer. The player can also visit the suburbs, piers or go diving in the ocean. The main method of traversal are vehicles, the most common ones being cars, divided into different categories - passenger, racing, off-road, etc. You can also fly a helicopter, ride a bike or even use a submarine.
Completing misions rewards us with money, which we can use to buy new clothes and weapons. If rich enough, we can even invest into one of the available properties or buy an expensive sports car. The game also features plenty of mini-games, such as tennis, golf, bowling, yoga, hacking and much more.
Multiplayer
Grand Theft Auto V is divided into two separate games - singleplayer and multiplayer. The first one features a singleplayer campaign, lets us traverse the city in search of collectibles and secrets, complete side missions, etc. The multiplayer mode, GTA Online, doesn't have a pre-determined story and is a pure sandbox experience, allowing us to become a mob boss, participate in races, heists, a game mode resembling the motorcycle competitions from the Tron movies and much more.
